Agastache mexicana ‘Red Fortune’®, also known as Mexican scented nettle ‘Red Fortune’, is an exceptionally attractive perennial that delights with its bright red to pink-coloured flower spikes and its aromatic, fragrant foliage. From July to October, it adorns the garden with lush blooms and attracts numerous bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects. Its elegant, bushy growth and delicate flowers make it a special eye-catcher in herbaceous borders, herb gardens or near-natural plantings.

Location and soil - undemanding and easy to care for
The Mexican scented nettle ‘Red Fortune’® prefers a sunny and warm location with well-drained, rather nutrient-poor soil. It thrives excellently in sandy or stony soils and is therefore ideal for prairie gardens, gravel beds or dry beds. Waterlogging should be avoided at all costs, as it reacts sensitively to permanently moist roots. Moderate pruning in spring encourages vigorous branching and ensures abundant flowering in summer.
Winter hardiness and care
Although Agastache mexicana ‘Red Fortune’® prefers mild winter locations, it can survive temperatures down to around -10 °C in sheltered locations with a light covering of brushwood or foliage. In colder regions, it is advisable to cultivate the plant in a pot and overwinter it in a frost-free place. It requires little care during the growth phase - regular removal of wilted flowers can extend the flowering period and improve the appearance of the plant.
