The hibiscus is known by various names: It is also called garden hibiscus, shrub hibiscus or garden hibiscus. It can grow up to two metres high. The right location for the hibiscus
The garden hibiscus likes full sun, but sheltered places. It can therefore be placed near the patio or indoors. It does not necessarily have to be planted in the garden, but can also be kept in a pot. The shrub, which grows up to two metres high, is frost-hardy and tolerates pruning. This garden marshmallow with its pink flowers is hardy. However, young plants should be protected in the ground. This can be done by planting ground covers - as already mentioned. But a layer of autumn leaves, mulch or compost also provides protection.
Care and pruning of the bush ibis
The garden hibiscus reacts to too little nutrients with fewer flowers. Therefore, regular fertiliser applications are recommended. Even though it is considered to be water-shy, it likes to be watered well and the soil does not dry out, but it does not tolerate waterlogging. The hibiscus should not only be pruned as a hedge. All previous shoots can be cut back to about five leaf nodes in spring. In this way the hibiscus regains its shape. Shrubs are excellent companions for a hibiscus. On the one hand, these plants ensure that the soil under the hibiscus does not dry out. But they also protect the plant during the cold season.
